Physical Problems… Hypnotherapy
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) – malfunction of the digestive system triggered or becoming more severe when a person is anxious or stressed.
Symptoms include abdominal pain, cramping, bloating and flatulence and can vary from person to person. Sufferers often experience swings from constipation to diarrhoea. It is the most common disorder of the intestine, affecting 10 to 20 per cent of adults, many of whom feel disinclined to seek help.
This disorder is not only debilitating but the constant worry of being near a toilet can destroy a person’s social life.
Deep relaxation created through hypnosis will have a helpful effect on IBS symptoms. Visualisation techniques allow a person to gain control over the muscles in the gut and bowel. Clients have reported less pain and discomfort and this in turn allows them to feel more relaxed and confident in everyday life.
In addition to hypnotherapy I offer a special eating plan to combat the symptoms of IBS.
Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) – the individual’s mind is filled with persistent thoughts which he or she is unable to control (obsessions). In order to try and control these thoughts the person will repeat certain behaviour, i.e. continually washing hands or repeatedly check to see if doors and windows are locked before going out, or retiring to bed.
These obsessive actions or thoughts may sometimes be to overcome the ‘guilty thoughts’ buried in the subconscious.
Treatment involves ‘repairing’ the event and ‘clearing’ the associated negative emotions, so releasing the obsessive behaviour and feelings.
Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) – a distinct pattern of symptoms that develop as a result of witnessing or being a victim of a traumatic event, e.g. an airplane crash; traffic accident or a rape.
Symptoms of PTSD
- *re-experiencing the event- recurring recollections, including dreams / nightmares.
- *avoidance – trying to avoid anything that they believe is associated with the traumatic event.
- *emotional breakdown – a person tries to detach him or herself, from other people – going ‘into a shell’; an emotional numbness.
- *Anxiety; state of alert; a feeling of guilt that they survived while others didn’t.
Treatment involves clearing the event and instilling more positive belief. Sessions are conducted at the preferred pace and wishes of the client.
Any person wishing to discuss any of the above issues are advised to give the clinic a call.
