Fears… Hypnotherapy

Fear – there are various elements that define the fear response:

  • The expectation of impending harm.
  • The body’s emergency reaction to danger – the sympathetic nervous system is activated, releasing adrenaline.
  • The feelings of dread, terror or panic.
  • The decision to run or stay put.

Fear is an emotion we experience when we feel out of our normal comfort ‘zone’ . If we are to undertake something ‘new’, our subconscious mind (our protector) releases chemicals such as adrenaline into the bloodstream to combat the tension. The quantity of the chemicals depends on the severity of the situation. This reaction puts the body in a state of alert to be able to cope. Once, the ‘new’ experience has been committed to memory, providing the event was relatively harmless, we can relax again.

However, the learned fear, gained from a previous experience will evoke stronger emotions. A painful or frightening memory, will affect our attitude and behaviour, when faced with a similar situation.

Hypnotherapy can help to relieve painful memories and put them into perspective enabling a more positive response to future events.

Should you be experiencing any fears affecting your life please contact the clinic and I would be happy to offer advice.
