Anger… Hypnotherapy

Anger is a common and incapacitating emotion.

The Type C personality finds it difficult to express emotion and tends to suppress his or her feelings, in particular, anger. While there is no precise evidence to prove that these personality traits can cause an illness such as cancer, there is a stronger possibility that the progression of cancer and the patient’s survival time will be affected.

We can feel angry and this emotion may be released in two ways:

  • Voicing our feelings.
  • Releasing anger on a physical level, e.g., strenuous exercise – going for a run, punching a pillow or cushion; shouting out loud (preferably alone). Tennis players who are angry with their performance will often shout out or throw their tennis rackets to the floor – Andy Murray is a classic example.

However, this is way of releasing negative pressure from the body; afterwards when tempers have abated we experience a state of calm; so much better than holding anger inside.

In some circumstances, when a person has not been allowed to express his or her feelings for a long period of time, that emotion becomes blocked in the body and as a result, one experiences a ‘physical blockage’, usually around the heart or in the general chest area.

A child subjected to unfeeling or non demonstrative parents and not been allowed to speak openly about his or her feelings will eventually become an ‘angry’ adult with little or no patience or self confidence and a quick temper.

Hypnotherapy allows a person to re-examine their past and to release the anger; once blocked emotions are cleared away a person actually feels mentally and physically lighter.
